Wingo is the name of the ancient tree that grows in the jungle surrounding the Amazon River. The tree produces the wingo nut that stores a watermelon-like fruit and black seeds, making these nuts excellent natural shakers. Traditional and modern designs are hand-carved onto the nut’s outer surface by the Shipibo peoples of the Amazon region. The handle of the wingo shaker is made from palm wood, and the top of the nut is decorated with natural fibers. These fairly traded shakers are made by artisans in Peru.
