Tito Puente: Platinum & Gold Collection

Mambo? Cha-cha-cha? Get up and dance to the music of “El Rey de los Timbales” (King of the Timbales), Tito Puente. This CD brings the rhythms of Afro-Cuban and Caribbean sounds to keep your spirits high. Highlights include Puente’s hits from the late 1940s and early 1950s— “Ran Kan Kan,” “Hong Kong Mambo,” and “Cao Cao Mani Picao.”   

The Tito Puente exhibit in MIM’s Artist Gallery highlights the charismatic New York bandleader’s  unique musical contribution, which fueled the evolution and broad appeal of Latin music in the United States. Included in the display are his last set of timbales and his first Grammy Award, along with other important items from his life. His Aurora 1000 vibraphone is on display in the Latin Jazz exhibit in the United States / Canada Gallery. The loans are made possible by Margaret Puente in memory of Tito Puente.
