The perfect little drums that play big! Talking drums have been used for centuries to convey messages over great distances, and skilled players mimic human speech with these amazing instruments. Squeezing the cowhide strips under a bent arm while striking creates low to high notes. The colorful Kente cloth wrap gives this fairly traded drum pop even when it is not in use.
MIM’s Africa Gallery includes more than 50 displays highlighting the significance of music and musical instruments in the lives of people throughout this vast continent. The gallery features the finest, largest, and most comprehensive representation of African instruments and musical traditions of any museum in the world.
