Hand drums are traditional Peruvian instruments, but similar versions are found in Africa and various parts of the world. Many of these instruments can be found on display throughout the museum’s galleries. The universal appeal may be due to its ease of play, which is simply to spin the beads attached to the end of each string back and forth on the drumhead. These particular hand drums feature a traditional and beautiful geometric design of the Shipibo, who are the indigenous people of the Ucayali River in the Amazon rainforest in Perú.
