This captivating film by Hayden Grooms explains the origins of automatic musical instruments, how they are collected and preserved today, and their historic importance. Produced by the Musical Box Society International (MBSI), the film includes live musical performances of many mechanical instruments as they were heard more than 100 years ago.  

 The Mechanical Music Gallery at MIM features instruments animated by many modes of fascinating technology. A number of the mechanical instruments are on generous loan from MBSI, whose members are dedicated to preserving these astonishing instruments and the knowledge required to keep them operating properly.
