Elgin Tom is a Navajo artisan born in Gallup, New Mexico. His father and grandfather were silversmiths, and Tom learned his craft from them. Influenced by his grandfather, he makes his own unique intricate molds by hand to create his jewelry. His original maize jewelry was inspired by his interest in the northern Native American art of totem-pole painting—with each series of coils representing the symbols of family and clan.
