Turas 1980: Live in Bremen
Clannad (derived from the word clan meaning “family” in Gaelic) was formed in 1970 by siblings Moya, Ciarán, and Pól Brennan and their uncles Noel and Pádraig Duggan. The multi-award-winning band brought Irish music and the Irish language to a worldwide audience. Fusing elements of traditional Irish music, contemporary folk, new age, and rock, they create a unique sound. The group’s haunting melodies and mesmerizing vocals appeal to audiences of all ages.
In January of 1980, Clannad returned to Germany after a 36-show tour through the United States—the longest tour for an Irish band at the time. The band was full of energy as well as enthusiasm and were warmly welcomed by the Bremen audience, making this recording exceptional.
In MIM’s popular Ireland exhibit, world-renowned Irish folk-music traditions are comprehensively represented through a collection of fine instruments. With video clips of lively dance music and folk songs, and the decorative Irish motifs embellishing many of the displayed items, guests’ ears and eyes are immersed in the musical landscape of the Emerald Isle.
