Belgian artist Louis Halleux created the memorable bronze sculpture, called Phoenix, that graces the main courtyard of the Musical Instrument Museum (MIM). Inspired by the museum’s commitment to the collection and preservation of global musical instruments, Phoenix alludes to many instruments, suggesting ancient myths, natural elements, and musicians. In combining allusions to instruments from around the globe, Halleux’s original sculpture inspires us, just as instrument makers inspire musicians and musicians inspire audiences. The body of our sculpture reproduction is made of hand-finished resin; all other elements are applied by hand.
