The Essential Cuban Anthology
The music of Cuba has proved to be a highly successful export for years. The early decades of the 20th century saw Cuban bands playing for the socialites of New York and Paris, and terms like rumba, mambo, and cha-cha-cha entered the international vocabulary during this period. This 2-CD collection features the cream of Cuban artists, including many who would later form the Buena Vista Social Club.
MIM holds the most diverse and culturally significant assemblage of Cuban musical instruments and artifacts outside of Cuba. The Cuba exhibit in the Latin America Gallery highlights a cross section of important pieces dating from the 1940s through today.
