The sarod’s strings (melody, drone, and sympathetic) are plucked with a plectrum (pick) and fingered without frets. In this CD, Gurdev Singh demonstrates his lifetime of study and skill on the sarod, accompanied by Navinder Shigh on tabla (drums) and Surjit Singh on tanpura (a stringed drone instrument). The CD consists of three classical pieces or ragas. Hindustani (North Indian classical) music is a featured element in MIM’s Asia gallery.
