Love Retablo

This colorful little retablo depicts two lovers with hearts that magically float over them. Eleudora Jimenez learned the craft of making retablos from her parents in Ayacucho, Peru. She created this shadow-box-like scene using a combination of plaster and cooked potato to cover and smooth each complex tableau before finishing it in bright Andean colors. The many details of this scene are delightful to look at and decipher.
