From China and Europe to the American blues, the harmonica draws on a long history of musical free reeds. Traditional reed instruments of China formed the foundation for European instrument inventors who aligned several reeds in a row from where the player could produce organ-like sounds by blowing. The Hohner Company in Germany began manufacturing harmonicas in the mid-1800s and, shortly thereafter, the “mouth organ” made its way to American folk music. Soldiers on both sides of the Civil War, and some notorious Western outlaws, used it to provide solace to each other. By the early 1900s, the harmonica was a standard in American blues.

Our set of Hohner harmonicas includes seven instruments in the most popular keys (A, B-flat, C, D, E, F, G) in a zippered case.
