Olde Irish Jigs and Reels
The spirit of Ireland is expressed through its dance music! Reels, set in easy to follow rhythms, are among the first dance patterns learned by Irish step dancers. Jigs, in lively three-fourths time, are also among the most popular of the traditional folk dances and music of Ireland. A revival of the folk music and dance began in the late 1800s and continues to this day. This CD was recorded in Great Britain to share the joy of these elements of Irish folk heritage. Its instrumentation includes the fiddle, whistle, melodeon, voice, and bodhran (drum). This spirited music is featured in the Ireland exhibit in MIM’s Europe gallery.
